SPRING (when the tiny new leaves and staminate catkins combine to lay a pastel tint of the artistic superstructure of limbs). They are among the very best sources of food for wildlife and are gathered and hoarded by birds and rodents.īEST SEASONS: FALL (for the rich fall color and the acorn crop, which draws a fascinating array of wildlife like a magnet). The acorns will sprout without a dormancy period and begin to germinate as soon as they fall from the tree. Acorns of oaks in this group ripen in one year. White oak is in the taxonomic subdivision of oaks known collectively as the white oaks (section Quercus, formerly subgenus Lepidobalanus or Leucobalanus see the taxonomic discussion under Quercus shumardii). The fruits are acorns, familiar to anyone who ever walked an oak woods in early fall. Consequently it lived as it had since before the birth of the nation, well exceeding what otherwise would have been its natural life span, to awe every visitor who knew enough about trees to comprehend its antiquity. Its enormous spreading crown was braced and cabled for many years to postpone its inevitable death from windstorms or lightning. It was 80 feet (24m) tall with a canopy that spread more than 100 feet (30m), and its huge limbs were supported by a hollow trunk 10 feet (3m) in diameter. Nothing else ever quite matched it, even though every portion of its natural range boasts notable and noble white oaks. national champion white oak was the famous old Wye Oak, which grew in its own park, Wye Mills State PARK, Maryland, until a storm brought it down in June of 2002. Like most oaks, it establishes from acorns sown by wildlife into openings caused by wind throw, fire, logging, or other disturbance, and grows slowly but relentlessly to become, after the first century or two, the lord of its locality. It lives for several centuries under favorable conditions, becoming more massive and picturesque with every passing human generation. White oak is a dominant tree of many landscapes. And the tree that might claim to be the flagship species of the genus is white oak, the state tree of Connecticut, Maryland, Iowa, and Illinois. ![]() ![]() Just as maple is the official tree of Canada, oak has been selected as the national tree of the United States. Much of what I cover for white oak applies as much to the rest. More than sixty oak species are native to the United States and Canada, and many more can be found in Mexico. ![]() Oaks occur naturally in vast numbers in each of the forty-eight contiguous states but Idaho, though cultivated oaks grow there. As we tree planters gain the wisdom and patience of experience and begin to focus more on the potential immortality of our work, native oaks are the trees we turn to throughout most of North America. DESCRIPTION: Oaks suffer form a short-sighted demand for instant gratification in the landscape that often results in a misguided preference for trendy but short-lived exotics.

Thus, it is relatively easy to predict the chemical properties of an element if one knows the properties of the elements around it. ![]() ![]() Elements with similar chemical properties generally fall into the same group in the periodic table, although in the f-block, and to some respect in the d-block, the elements in the same period tend to have similar properties, as well. oxygen, sulfur, and selenium are in the same column because they all have four electrons in the outermost p-subshell). Columns ( groups) are determined by the electron configuration of the atom elements with the same number of electrons in a particular subshell fall into the same columns (e.g. A new row ( period) is started when a new electron shell has its first electron. In the standard periodic table, the elements are listed in order of increasing atomic number Z. When atomic mass is shown, it is usually the weighted average of naturally occurring isotopes but if there are none, the mass of the most stable isotope usually appears, often in parentheses. Isotopes are never separated in the periodic table they are always grouped together under a single element. For example, carbon has three naturally occurring isotopes: all of its atoms have six protons and most have six neutrons as well, but about one per cent have seven neutrons, and a very small fraction have eight neutrons. Most elements have multiple isotopes, variants with the same number of protons but different numbers of neutrons. Many alternative representations of the periodic law exist, and there is some discussion as to whether there is an optimal form of the periodic table.Įach chemical element has a unique atomic number ( Z ) representing the number of protons in its nucleus. Some scientific discussion also continues regarding whether some elements are correctly positioned in today's table. It is not yet known how far the table will go beyond these seven rows and whether the patterns of the known part of the table will continue into this unknown region. Today, while all the first 118 elements are known, thereby completing the first seven rows of the table, chemical characterisation is still needed for the heaviest elements to confirm that their properties match their positions. In nature, only elements up to atomic number 94 exist to go further, it was necessary to synthesise new elements in the laboratory. The periodic table continues to evolve with the progress of science. The periodic table and law are now a central and indispensable part of modern chemistry. Seaborg's discovery that the actinides were in fact f-block rather than d-block elements. A recognisably modern form of the table was reached in 1945 with Glenn T. It was explained early in the 20th century, with the discovery of atomic numbers and associated pioneering work in quantum mechanics both ideas serving to illuminate the internal structure of the atom. The periodic law was recognized as a fundamental discovery in the late 19th century. As not all elements were then known, there were gaps in his periodic table, and Mendeleev successfully used the periodic law to predict some properties of some of the missing elements. The first periodic table to become generally accepted was that of the Russian chemist Dmitri Mendeleev in 1869 he formulated the periodic law as a dependence of chemical properties on atomic mass. Nonmetallic character increases going from the bottom left of the periodic table to the top right. ![]() ![]() Metallic character increases going down a group and decreases from left to right across a period. Vertical, horizontal and diagonal trends characterize the periodic table. Elements in the same group tend to show similar chemical characteristics. The table is divided into four roughly rectangular areas called blocks. It is a depiction of the periodic law, which says that when the elements are arranged in order of their atomic numbers an approximate recurrence of their properties is evident. It is an icon of chemistry and is widely used in physics and other sciences. The periodic table, also known as the periodic table of the elements, arranges the chemical elements into rows (" periods") and columns (" groups"). ![]() Dohnnyi, Ernst von arr Wild: Piano Quintet No 1 in C minor Op 1 (2) - Earl. Not relevant now but definitely worth keeping on the radar. The promise of prestige awaits in Rival Stars Horse Racing. We don't know anything about it, only that the devs are reasonably aware of fan expectations for the game, as a follow-up to what came before. It's officially on the way, albeit for a release no earlier than 2024 by our rough estimations. It's a long way out – years perhaps – but the first signs of life in terms of a sequel to the beloved Kunoz-developed sim racer are there. Forza promises more of the same, when it eventually arrives. GT promised and delivered stunning graphics, an engrossing career, good physics and GT nostalgia and has received superb DLC, patches and updates over the last year. Enjoy the ultimate horse racing and riding experience on mobile Let me start by saying I am addicted to horse racing, haven't missed a single triple crown race in almost 50 yrs, that being said this game is good for folks that understand the sport, it has a huge amount of horses to choose from and they are very realistic looking, it takes some getting used to to work the controls, but im catching on, I wish they had a record of the number of races. I think that the developers should further expand the reality in the game. There is a delay feeling with the engine that has to do with the intake. There have been problems with the Mazdaspeed as can be seen on. There is a difference in feedback when good suspension hits a bump versus so so suspension that is just firm as hell. The Mazdaspeed is not a 6s but it feels sporty going over bumps if you know what I mean. The PR5 feels like I ran over a tree stump on the smallest holes. The suspension is very stiff but it "hits" bumps much better than the PR5. The Mazdaspeed felt more substantial than the PR5 when I first pulled it onto the street. I still like the PR5 for it is a great handling wagon that allows me to haul things a little better than a sedan. My PR5 is the worst car for bumps than any I have ever been in. I think Proteges are terrible on harsh roads with lots of potholes. The MSP is much better in ways than my PR5 and can be had cheap if you know where to go and how to negotiate. I was originally looking at the 6s which looks and feels great but is hard to get and not quite as fun as I once considered it. I have test driven the Mazdaspeed Protege(Once) the Mazda 6s Manual (5 times) and I own a 2002 PR5. So basically its a great track car, but its no 98 eclipse GSX in that your not going to be able to get 500hp out of it simply by buying a boost controller. for me its still between that and the SVT Focus. basically though it's a solid car, go for the 2003.5 as they are a little less "boy racer" inside. since this was a parts bin car, some things like the intercooler were taken off other cars, in this case a diesel mazda. ![]() you can probably see improvements with a better exhaust and a real intercooler. ![]() guys with manual boost controllers dont go above 9.5 lbs. they are stock protege internals and can't handle much more boost. 1) a lot has been done for you allready suspension wise. Well you shouldn't double post things, but since im not a mod, i dont really care here is my responce from the other post in case you stop here first. ![]() They also need plenty of exercise outside their cages, so it’s harder keeping one if you have no garden at home. ![]() Boas are not good pets for people living in flats or apartments, since larger specimens require rather spacious terrariums and an owner with enough time on their hands to care for them adequately. In case you’re thinking about getting a boa constrictor as a pet I’d recommend you consider whether the animal fits in your household beforehand. If you have children at home ensure that your pets are in a safe place where they can’t be bothered by curious children. Boas that were bred in captivity do tend to be less aggressive than wild caught specimens though.Ī pet boa may decide to coil around something when frightened, which could potentially suffocate the snake or cause damage due to compressing its internal organs with force. It might also mistake a sleeping human for its prey (for example small rodents like hamsters or guinea pigs) and attack them in their sleep. A wild-caught boa is often very defensive and will defend itself against any perceived threat. They should never be handled without close supervision by an experienced animal handler. However, this vivid coloring means that it needs extra care when kept as a pet in captivity.īoa constrictors are not inherently dangerous to humans, but they can bite if threatened. Jungle – This brightly colored red, yellow and orange snake can be extremely beautiful to look at in the wild.Hypomelanistic – The hypo boa constrictor is a rare breed that has faint brown blotches and streaks. ![]()

With WDDA, Western Digital aims to empower users with proactive drive management capabilities and ensure the optimal performance and reliability of their WD drives. It provides a holistic view of the drive’s health, allowing users to make informed decisions regarding maintenance, replacement, or further diagnostics. By analyzing these factors, WDDA helps to assess the drive’s usage patterns, potential wear and tear, and expected lifespan. It encompasses various metrics and parameters derived from HDD specifications, including load/unload cycles, MTBF (mean time between failures), TBW (terabytes written per year), and power-on hours per year. WDDA aims to provide valuable insights into the health, performance, and overall condition of WD drives. Please consider to replace the drive soon. The drive has accumulated a large number of power on hours through the entire life of the drive. The discrepancy between SMART test results and the persistent warning has sparked confusion and prompted users to seek answers and solutions to this perplexing dilemma. It has become apparent that WDDA plays a significant role in triggering the warnings, even when SMART checks report no issues. The source of this seemingly contradictory warning lies in WDDA (Western Digital Device Analytics). ![]() This puzzling situation has left many scratching their heads since SMART checks, a commonly used diagnostic tool for assessing drive health, indicate that these drives are functioning perfectly fine. People have begun questioning why DSM 7, the operating system used in Synology NAS devices, displays warnings on drives that are merely three years old. In recent times, an interesting phenomenon has caught the attention of users in various online forums. What’s happening? When did this all start? “ – An Official Synology Source, 9th June 2023 So while DSM can ignore warnings thrown by WDDA, this defeats the purpose of the health monitoring tool that the administrator knowingly enabled. WDDA, and its triggers and warnings, are not developed or controllable by Synology. Synology has been in touch regarding this video and was keen to make the following statement regarding WDDA Drive support and use on their DSM software platform. Additionally, we will address whether it is advisable to disable the WDDA feature and provide instructions on how to do so if desired.
